Here we have an Uber-rare political poster of the Iwo Jima marines planting the flag where the sun don't shine....with Ayatollah Khomeini involved...ahem. Although the image was designed by Andy Donato at the Toronto Sun in the late 70s, this satirical sign of the times is found in the Library of Congress (see link below). Not bad for a editorial cartoon. It struck a nerve!
The rare vintage poster came out of an old estate of a truck driver who collected throughout America. He apparently acquired a large storage unit in California of unused posters between the 60s through the early 80s. This poster was printed by Pro Arts in 1979.
Here is the listing for this
poster in the Library of Congress:Here is an
article in the Toronto Sun about Andy Donato's career, which mentions this poster.
The poster has never been used, and measures 28" tall by 20" wide. There is evidence of rolled storage. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship posters USPS in the continental USA only. I will ship the poster rolled in the poster tube. Free shipping on the poster.
A rare bird and a chuckle. It's all you need.
