Here we have a rare gelatin print of a creepy wax head by listed artist Waswo X. Waswo. This is one is Requiem #1 from the Requiem: Song of the Dead series, and titled "Wax Head, Museo della Specola." This mono print is signed, and there are only 31 prints in the series.
Here's the full description of the piece from the reverse tag:
"Each of these silver gelatin prints have been sepia and gold toned. The photographs are printed by the artist on fiber-based paper. Each image is a monoprint: the negatives have been destroyed. The prints are embossed with "Waswo Limited Edition", signed and numbered 1/1 under the mat. They have been dry-mounted on acid-free %100 rag board. The word "Requiem" has been printed in white ink on the each overmat."

Waswo X. Waswo (November 13, 1953), is a photographer and writer most commonly associated with his chemical process sepia-toned photographs of India, and also hand-colored portraits made at his studio in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Waswo’s first major book, India Poems: The Photographs, was in part a challenge to politically correct notions of the western artist's role in responding to Asia, and his work has been critiqued in the light of cultural theories that stem from Edward Said and his book Orientalism.
The rare photograph was acquired at an estate auction in the Twin Cities area. I'm unsure of the age of the piece. I'm assuming it's sometime in the 2000s. The reverse listing of the Song of the Dead series is also signed.
The framed piece measures 21 1/2" tall by 17 1/2" wide. The exposed image measures about 8" x 8". The framing is solid and tight. There are a few minor scuffs on the gold frame. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
