1950s Surreal Painting of Hand in Well | Chicago Artist

Here we have a stunning surrealist painting of a hand reaching out of well, ready to pull the cord. As for what that means, welcome to the beauty of surrealism. Maybe to release the water, maybe to fill the water higher. The mystery goes on and on. But the execution is no mystery. The detail and shading are stunning. I'm mean, the hand alone. There's major potential for triple takes, stepping back, moving closer. I know, I've been doing it since I acquired this rare beauty. And someone thought so much of it that they had it professional conserved by someone at the Chicago Conservation Center. Add it up, and the total will blow your mind for years.

The rare 1950s artwork was painted by Chicago artist Donald Holst. Not a lot is known about his. However, there is a Donald Holst who was an illustrator artist. This may be the same artist. On the reverse, the painting is signed and dated 7-18-51. The conservation tag is also found on the reverse.

The unframed 1950s surrealist painting measures 20" wide and 14" wide and 3/4" deep. The piece is in great shape, thanks to the conservation. The painting was cleaned, a tear was repaired, a Bocour Magna retouch occurred, and a Soluvar varnish was applied. There is a very small scrape in the lower right corner. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO boxes). Frees shipping on the rare surrealist art.

Some items have it, and some items don't. Then there's a painting of a hand reaching out to the depths of a well, from the 1950s. Unreal.
